Tips for Competition

“Since the first day my brother came to me and told me all the great things that DECA had to offer I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of this organization. It has defiantly been the greatest choice I made in my high school career. I never thought that I would be able to do so much in this program but I have really learned a lot. ”
Alex Hampton
Cheyenne East High School

“I think that DECA is more than just being the best in your category of competition, of course we all want to be the best at what we are there for, but it’s also about growing as a future business person and just doing the best you can”
Desiree Brito
Laramie High School

“Honestly, our students join to go on trips and meet new people. Some tell me, “My friends say DECA is cool.” I also mention to them that some local businesses will hire DECA students above other students and sometimes pay them more than other students – that’s an incentive!”
Mary Hopper

Information about Wyoming DECA

Welcome to Wyoming DECA!

DECA members participate in competitive events, attend workshops, meet students from across the state, travel to international competition and have fun! See “Why Join DECA?” for a student’s perspective on reasons to join this dynamic organization for Wyoming high school students.

Competitive Events

DECA’s Competitive Events Program includes more than 30 occupational areas. Students win recognition, trophies, and scholarships while competing at the local, state and international levels. DECA gives students the challenge of bettering themselves and testing their skills.

The purpose of DECA's competitive events are:
1. to contribute to the development of skills necessary for careers in marketing, merchandising, management and entrepreneurship
2. to evaluate student achievement of the skills through careful measurement devices (performances indicators)
3. to provide opportunities for student and team recognition
4. to provide constructive avenues for individual or team expression, initiative and creativity
5. to motivate students to assume responsibility for self-improvement and self-discipline
6. to provide a vehicle for students to demonstrate (via performance indicators) their acquired skills through individual or team activities
7. to assist students in acquiring a realistic self-concept through individual or team activities
8. to help students participate in an environment of cooperation and competition
9. to provide visibility for the educational goals and objectives of marketing education.

Business Participation

State business leaders participate in Wyoming DECA by acting as judges in competitions and presenting workshops or panel discussions during Wyoming DECA’s fall Marketing and Entrepreneurship Conference.
